Apéros with family
If you are reading this blog and live in the Provence, then you already heard of them: apéros. And if you are new to this phenomenon, then try to experience an apéro with kids when in France! It’s a short word for apératif, and comes down to enjoying an early evening drink and bite with your friends or family. The French master these moments and lots of venues host an apéro. I have selected a few places around Aix-en-Provence where you can spend a wonderful time enjoying an apéro with kids.
Terre Ugo, Puyricard
This fairytale place is a family run lavender field. Terre Ugo is a very popular wedding venue, and I get why. Luckily you don’t have to get married to visit the field. From June 1st to the beginning of September, Terre Ugo hosts wonderful Thursday apéros. Kids are more then welcome to come along and are free to run around. There are even some toys to play with. Parents can chill on a cool rug or at a picknick table and enjoy cocktails, rosé and homemade bites. Tickets are on sale via the website of Terre Ugo for €7, kids under 12 are free.
Poloclub, Saint-Cannat
We only discovered this beautiful venue on their last apéro of last season. It made a big impression. Again this is an enchanting place, the horses make it even more special. Several Thursdays and Saturdays this 2024 Summer, beginning on the 16th of May, the Poloclub organises apéros. The evening starts with a polo match, then there will be a caterer and live music. Very, very chill. And kids can run around the property and admire the horses. Entrance is free. More info about where and when on their Instagram page or Facebook.
CIAM, Aix-en-Provence
This very cool venue, just outside of Aix-en-Provence, is a great place to visit with kids. It stands for ‘Centre International des Arts en Mouvement’. At home we call it ‘circus school’, but actually that doesn’t do right for CIAM. The most impressive acrobatic shows are held here and kids get lessons in a very passionate way. CIAM also hosts ‘Les vendredis du CIAM‘. During Summer, the fun terrain of CIAM is transformed into an apéro place, each Friday you and the kids are welcome for a drink. Foodtrucks will be there for the bites, and even a DJ set. Entrance is free for this apéro with kids, more info here.
Loucau, Puyricard
This more than an ice-cream place in the middle of the vineyards of Puyricard, is the place to be this Summer. During the weekends Loucau stays open in the evenings, so you can enjoy ice-cream and a local wine or beer. Get inspired by looking at their Instagram page. Loucau also organises several music nights and hosts food trucks.
