BEACHES

Carry-le-Rouet

When in Aix-en-Provence during summertime, you will probably want to cool down too. There is no better place to do so then the beach. This article is about a nice beach on the Côte Bleue, a beach near Aix-en-Provence.

The place is called Carry-le-Rouet, a very pleasant beach village to visit all year long. Carry-le-Rouet has several areas, in my humble opinion the area of Plage du Rouet is the most interesting to visit with (smaller) children.

Beach

You can park right next to the beach, behind the sailing club. The sandy beach is not very large, though it has a beautiful view on the gorgeous azure sea. Along the beach your kid will most probably be attracted to a small playground, in the shape of a pirate boat that suits just perfect in front of the sea. During summer there are lifeguards present. Very nearby you can find a couple of restaurants that offer snacks and ice cream.

Water activities

Right near the beach is the AVCR located, the sailing club of Carry-le-Rouet. It would be my dream that my kids learn to sail on the Mediterranean Sea, I hope we will be confident enough about their swimming before we have to leave France again. We have seen the cute little sailing boats going out for their lesson and it seems like a wonderful experience. Another good thing about the club is that you can rent a Standup paddle-board (SUP) here. Now if I would have to name one passion, it’s paddle boarding. The sea is just perfect over here, a few paddles and you are out and enjoying the oh so pretty coast.

A little hike

If you feel like other activities than water activities, why not do a little hike? I promise that this hike is very do-able with little kids, soon you will be rewarded with a magnificent view. With the beach in your back, walk right towards Le Chemin des Eaux salées and cross the barrier here. You walk along some beautiful beach houses until you encounter stairs. Take the stairs and soon you will see the beautiful Chapelle du Rouet. From here you can walk towards the summit of the hill (hold your kid close of course!) and be amazed by the colors of the water and le Viaduc des Eaux salées.
