La Glacière, Cucuron

The city of Aix-en-Provence is so beautiful, that it is sometimes hard to leave the place. But there is so much more to explore around Aix. Take the charming little village Cucuron, in the gorgeous green Luberon. Here you can spend a wonderful time with your kid and top it with a visit to the cute ice cream shop La Glacière.

Love for the artisans

Next to a pond surrounded by big trees, you can spot the pretty blue shutters of La Glacière. The kind lady owner carefully picks the ingredients for her delicious ice cream. The milk comes straight from the farm and she only uses natural ingredients. What about vanille from Madagascar or chestnuts from the Ardèche? There are so many flavors of ice cream to choose, from strawberry to lemon-ginger to salted caramel. You could even try a goat milk version.

Besides ice creams, La Glacière serves home made whipped cream and iced drinks, like iced coffee and lemonade. My kids and I have tried a selection of her ice cream and we loved it. In my twenties I worked at my local ice cream shop and adored the artisanal fabrication of ice cream with local products. I have learned to taste good ice cream and this is definitely what La Glacière serves. Now we will for sure come back to this cute spot and will bring one of their pots of salted caramel butter home.

More to explore

La Glacière has a pretty terrace with bright colored table sets where you can also order one of the coupes. Every chair is taken? No worries, there is plenty of room for you and your family to sit around the pond. There are some apparently very good restaurants here as well.

And of course you are wondering, what else is kids friendly about Cucuron? Besides that we never mind to take a drive for getting a yummy ice cream, there is a cute little playground in town. It is just across the pond and it is fun for kids till around 8 years old. Besides these kids magnets, you can treat yourself with a stroll through the beautiful village. It is just as pretty as the famous Lourmarin, but it appears to me more authentic and less touristy. The tourism office offers a medium level walk of 6,7km to la Chapelle de l’Ermitage.

Every Tuesday there is market day, when local producers gather together to offer you lots of delicacies and beautiful souvenirs.

When can we have a taste?

La Glacière is open for their delicious business from the 1st of April. Check the pretty website of ice cream shop La Glacière for more info.
