Lourmarin

If you would like to visit a charming Luberon village, it can’t get more charming than Lourmarin. It is very touristy and can get very crowded in summertime, but it is all very stylish and worth the visit. Lourmarin is also a very nice place to visit with children. Here I tell you all about the spot to visit in Lourmarin with kids, all in walking distance and with fun variety that makes it both interesting for you as well as your kid.

Fun playground with a view

On the Boulevard du Rayol, you can satisfy your kids for sure with this nice playground, right in the middle of Lourmarin. My kids are just so happy every time they are here. Especially the wooden train is a good input for role plays and climbing. There is also a castle with toboggans in different hights and a tourniquet. I don’t know about you, but ever since I have kids my balance is a wreck. This tourniquet is killing me, even looking at it haha! Still the kids love it. Moreover there are area’s for soccer, basketball and even a skatepark next to the playground. Fun guaranteed. There are a few benches for parents. Looking up you are in the shadow of a beautiful ginkgo, a very special Japanese tree with pretty leafs. On Fridays you can treat yourself with yummy stuff from the market, which is a typical French one.

Château de Lourmarin

From the benches on the playground you even have a view on the centuries old ‘Château de Lourmarin‘. It is already beautiful from the outside, but the inside is also worth a ticket fee (kids under 6 years are free). The château is based on the ruins of a 12th century fort and witnessed interesting times like the French Revolution. After these tumultuous times, it now has a cultural destination. For kids there is a ‘jeu de piste’, a treasure hunt that involves the kids with visiting the castle. It’s available in French, English and German.

Where to eat?

Besides the market there are so many nice places to provide you with a lunch or ‘goûter’ (snacktime). For the latter I can recommend you the ice cream shop ‘Ravi, Glaces de Provence‘. As a former ice cream shop girl I know good icecream, Ravi has it. Besides good quality ice cream, they have original and locally orientated flavors like lavender and almonds of the Luberon. The shop has a terrace that is beautifully located on a car free square with a pretty fountain where your kid can run off all the sugars. Don’t want to push you too much, but TRY THE ICE-COFFEE.

There are several good restaurants in Lourmarin, from very fancy to very do-able with kids. You would have to bring your own coloring plates or other entertainment, as like everywhere in France, but your family will feel welcome at Insolite with its beautiful terrace or at Café Gaby and its crêpes for lunch. Both are located in the heart of Lourmarin, check the links for the location.
