Zoo La Barben
Zoo La Barben is a kid-friendly zoo near Aix-en-Provence, in a beautiful surrounding. If you like zoo’s, you will probably adore this petit but well maintained zoo. A big variety of animals live in Zoo La Barben, so your kid can learn about bears, monkeys, reptiles, tropical birds, you name it. There are more than 130 different species to admire and to find out how interesting they are. It gives you a good chance to teach your kid about the beautiful flora and fauna the world can offer. Although the animals are not in their natural habitat, the zoo has made a good effort in giving the animals a proper home. My kids especially adored the little monkeys, who swing their way around and can be very sneaky!
Part of the zoo is located on top of a hill. Actually from where you can see the beautiful Chateau de Barben. In case of small legs or walking with a stroller, you can hop on a little (paid) train to take your family upwards.
Great extras
A great thing about the zoo, of course besides the beautiful animals, is the big playground. After looking at those monkeys, now your monkey can get wild itself! When you (purposely) forgot your picnic basket, no worries because there is a little snack boutique on the terrain! To make your stay even more special, you can book a little tour with a caretaker to have more insight in species and their way of life. You could also opt for going a long with feeding the animals, or seeing some birds fly away. For every age group a little booklet can be downloaded, for kids from 7 to 14 years old a Rhino treasure hunt is proposed. For the lucky ones that are visiting Zoo La Barben during Easter, you can do a Easter egg hunt here!
