FOOD & DRINKS
Discovering a cute place to eat or drink with a good ambiance for kids, that's what makes my day. It sounds so easy, but I often found ourselves strolling the streets for such a place while our hunger grew... Well, that is just no good for the mood. Lucky you that I found you some nice adresses to enjoy food and drinks with kids around Aix-en-Provence. I have to explain you something about the French culture first. Eating good food with family is one of the most important things in life. The best thing about it is that almost everywhere you can eat GOOD food. Even in places that look crappy. On the other hand, enjoying eating together is so significant, that kids are supposed to behave well at the table. It is not common to find places where kids can run around or where there is a kids corner. Nevertheless there are some pretty kid-friendly spots in and around town where you can have a good time with your kid.

La table de Rina, Ventabren
About 20 minutes from the centre of Aix-en-Provence, lies the little village named Ventabren. The heart of the village is located at the top of a hill and is very pretty. Driving a little bit further, you stumble upon the ‘Plateau de Ventabren’, where you find several sports facilities and a hiking area with an incredible vue. You could even spot the Mediterranean Sea! On the plateau you encounter a great Italian family friendly restaurant around: La Table de Rina. You won’t find a kids corner or coloring plats at Table de Rina, but they make the best Italian food for the kids. My daughter still dreams of her pasta…

Aix-en-Provence centre
Well, I am no star in just randomly visiting a city. Lucky you! While living in Aix-en-Provence, I am able to share with you some nice activities with kids in Aix-en-Provence. Finding some kid-friendly spots in town can make your visit even more pleasant. It is good to know that Aix has quite a compact city centre, which makes it do-able to explore the city by foot (and stroller). Wandering through town On the website of the Tourism Office you find a sweet brochure for kids from 4, 5 years old that guides you on a petit treasure hunt through town. With the nickname ‘city of fountains’, you can expect…

Marseille with kids
As you might have guessed reading my blog, my family and I live in Aix-en-Provence. It’s a calm, elegant and quite wealthy mid-sized French town. Such a difference from the booming metropole big sister Marseille. To truly experience the Provence, I can only advise you to go and pay this vibrant and trendy city a visit. Here are some tips for a visit of Marseille with kids. Mucem and Grotte Cosquer One of the better parkings in Marseille is the Indigo parking at Le Vieux-Port/ Mucem. There are many spots and coming up you have just the most amazing view. Upstairs you find two interesting venues for your family. The…

Apéros with family
If you are reading this blog and live in the Provence, then you already heard of them: apéros. And if you are new to this phenomenon, then try to experience an apéro with kids when in France! It’s a short word for apératif, and comes down to enjoying an early evening drink and bite with your friends or family. The French master these moments and lots of venues host an apéro. I have selected a few places around Aix-en-Provence where you can spend a wonderful time enjoying an apéro with kids. Terre Ugo, Puyricard This fairytale place is a family run lavender field. Terre Ugo is a very popular wedding…

Glacier Loucau, Puyricard
In the middle of the ‘campagne aixios’, the rural area of Aix-en-Provence, a wonderful place opened its doors. It’s the ice-cream shop Loucau with the most delicious ice-cream around Aix. Loucau is situated in the vineyards of the cute village Puyricard. Loucau is started by a lovely couple with a dream. Their dream has now become our dreamy love spot. From a transformed container the couple serves truly the best ice-cream around Aix. We have tried their vanilla, kiwi, lemon, strawberry and pistachio flavors and they all tasted so good. Both my kids and I are very experienced ice-cream lovers so without being modest I can say that this means…

Le Four sous le Platane, Aix
If you are looking for a kid-friendly restaurant in Aix-en-Provence, Le Four sous le Platane is a good option with kids in summertime. Or during spring or fall, as Aix-en-Provence has this perfect climate that makes it very attractive to sit on a terrace. It is located on a cute little square in the centre of Aix, not so far away from the fountain of La Rotonde. Finding a spot on the terrace of Place des Tanneurs, just gives you the idea as if you are on of the locals. Away from the touristy crowds on the Cours Mirabeau and in a wonderful Aixois setting. The menu Le Four sous…

Wanted Burger
Just a few minutes from where we live, we discovered a great outdoor family restaurant. This treasure is called Wanted Burger, situated in the ‘campagne’ (countryside) of Aix-en-Provence. The restaurant is actually an old bus, that is transformed in a kitchen and even a few indoor seats. You would actually want to sit outside, I will tell you why. Le food Your child will love this place, and so will you! Wanted Burger serves, what’s in a name, delicious hamburgers in a wide variety of styles. Like the Sheriff Burger for instance, or a vegetarian version. The fries are home made, so does that make them a slightly bit healthier?…

LUMA, Arles
Already at the first glimpse of this building, my kids were attracted. This magnificent architectural shiny tower has only been open since a few months. Inspired by the art of Van Gogh during his stay in and around Arles, the American architect Frank Gehry made a new icon for Arles. A beautiful modern contrast with the Roman history of the city. It is also a great museum for kids because… this is a museum with a slide. LUMA has an object that disguises as art, but is in fact a super fast slide. Kids above 1m10 can experience their best time up here, and wow, the slide goes fast. Dizzy…

Thanks to friends that idolize this venue, we visited Restaurant Maison Sainte-Victoire this summer. It is a restaurant with a menu of amazing quality and it is situated on a stunning site. About the restaurant At the foot of the famous Aixoise mountain La Sainte-Victoire, in the village of Saint-Antonin-sur-Bayon, lies Maison Sainte-Victoire. It is a building that situates the restaurant as well as a cute little interesting museum. Restaurant Maison Sainte-Victoire has a very impressive cuisine, ooooh and its pastries are breathtaking. Le Môme, Venelles
Venelles is a quiet village not far from Aix-en-Provence, with a tiny but pretty center and some convenient shops. In the center you can find a good spot to enjoy a very good lunch or diner with your kid aka le môme. Le Môme is a family friendly restaurant. Le Môme is beautifully decorated with cool kids bikes and other kids relics. The owners have a kid and he apparently is an inspiration for their restaurant. There is a special môme menu with fish or meat, it gives you a choice at last! The other kids welcoming factors are a kids chair and a changing table. I don’t spot them…
