La table de Rina, Ventabren
About 20 minutes from the centre of Aix-en-Provence, lies the little village named Ventabren. The heart of the village is located at the top of a hill and is very pretty. Driving a little bit further, you stumble upon the ‘Plateau de Ventabren’, where you find several sports facilities and a hiking area with an incredible vue. You could even spot the Mediterranean Sea! On the plateau you encounter a great Italian family friendly restaurant around: La Table de Rina. You won’t find a kids corner or coloring plats at Table de Rina, but they make the best Italian food for the kids. My daughter still dreams of her pasta…

Aix-en-Provence centre
Well, I am no star in just randomly visiting a city. Lucky you! While living in Aix-en-Provence, I am able to share with you some nice activities with kids in Aix-en-Provence. Finding some kid-friendly spots in town can make your visit even more pleasant. It is good to know that Aix has quite a compact city centre, which makes it do-able to explore the city by foot (and stroller). Wandering through town On the website of the Tourism Office you find a sweet brochure for kids from 4, 5 years old that guides you on a petit treasure hunt through town. With the nickname ‘city of fountains’, you can expect…

Carry-le-Rouet
When in Aix-en-Provence during summertime, you will probably want to cool down too. There is no better place to do so then the beach. This article is about a nice beach on the Côte Bleue, a beach near Aix-en-Provence. The place is called Carry-le-Rouet, a very pleasant beach village to visit all year long. Carry-le-Rouet has several areas, in my humble opinion the area of Plage du Rouet is the most interesting to visit with (smaller) children. Beach You can park right next to the beach, behind the sailing club. The sandy beach is not very large, though it has a beautiful view on the gorgeous azure sea. Along the…

Planetarium Peiresc
Next to the nice Parc Saint Mitre you can find the Planetarium of Aix-en-Provence. Planetarium Peiresc is not an observatory, but more a pedagogic place where kids can learn all about stars, planets and satellites. Due to our experience, I would really recommend you to visit this kid-friendly planetarium. On Wednesdays and Saturdays as well as during kids holidays, the planetarium organizes workshops adapted to kids. There are even workshops created for different age groups. We visited a special about ‘robots in space’, where we were explained not only about satellites, but we also got an explanation about the stars around us from the perspective of Aix-en-Provence. The very enthusiastic…

As you might have read in my other blogs my kids and I are fond of ice cream. I have a magnificent place to share with you. My sweet French teacher Lucie told me about l’Art Glacier and their amazing terrace. Now, your kids will even love you more when you take them here haha. Delicious ice cream with a view. L’Art Glacier is a treasure, to be found near the pretty village Ansouis. Almost immediately after we got the hint we visited l’Art Glacier and were stunned with the delicious coupes of ice cream. Almost as stunning was the view. Ooooh, that view! From one of the desired tables…

Saint-Rémy-de-Provence
The Provence is so full of beautiful places, no way you will get bored around here. Take the gorgeous little town Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, situated about an hour drive of Aix-en-Provence. Right in the heart of the Alpilles mountains. Over here you experience the typical Provence feeling, though it is also very “mondaine” with its beauties of boutiques and art shops. Apparently Saint-Rémy is very popular among the famous French, a place to see and be seen. Well, as we are just a plain family, we didn’t have to worry about that haha! We did find that Saint-Rémy-de-Provence is also a great place for a kid friendly provençal day trip. Oh that…

Écomusée de la forêt
Yes, the museums are open again! Just outside of Aix you find a kid-friendly forest museum. It is the Écomusée de la forêt in Gardanne and it even has an outdoor playground! Talking about a cool place… The Écomusée is a small but sweet museum about the flora and fauna in the region of Aix-en-Provence. The exhibitions are really adapted to children, there are some cute interactive games and areas. Oh and, (my kids love their screen time anywhere) there is a short film. Besides learning about the plants and animals, my kids especially got appealed by the section about forest fires. The sound of sirens made my son very…
