    La Route du Mimosa

Ooooh, the Mimosa…. It’s not only the name of a very delicious cocktail, but also a type of tree that grows mainly in the Provence and the Côte d’Azur. The special thing about this tree is, that in Winter it gives the most beautiful and cheerful yellow flowers that seem to dance in the wind. And that wonderful smell… Ever since I lived in the Provence, I am a fan! In the months January till March you can get the flowers at any local flower shop or at, for instance, the ‘Marché aux Fleurs’ in Aix-en-Provence. Still, the most impressive are the mimosas in their natural surroundings. That is why…

    Glacier Loucau, Puyricard

In the middle of the ‘campagne aixios’, the rural area of Aix-en-Provence, a wonderful place opened its doors. It’s the ice-cream shop Loucau with the most delicious ice-cream around Aix. Loucau is situated in the vineyards of the cute village Puyricard.  Loucau is started by a lovely couple with a dream. Their dream has now become our dreamy love spot. From a transformed container the couple serves truly the best ice-cream around Aix. We have tried their vanilla, kiwi, lemon, strawberry and pistachio flavors and they all tasted so good. Both my kids and I are very experienced ice-cream lovers so without being modest I can say that this means…

    Écomusée de la forêt

Yes, the museums are open again! Just outside of Aix you find a kid-friendly forest museum. It is the Écomusée de la forêt in Gardanne and it even has an outdoor playground! Talking about a cool place… The Écomusée is a small but sweet museum about the flora and fauna in the region of Aix-en-Provence. The exhibitions are really adapted to children, there are some cute interactive games and areas. Oh and, (my kids love their screen time anywhere) there is a short film. Besides learning about the plants and animals, my kids especially got appealed by the section about forest fires. The sound of sirens made my son very…

    Hiking around the Sainte-Victoire

All around Aix-en-Provence you can see the mountain named Sainte-Victoire. It’s top with a huge cross on it, is an icon for every Aixoise or Aixois. I have come to love this spot so much, that it really feels like coming home when I see it. Popular as it is in the Provence, there are many walks possible, from several places to start. If you would like a few hints of kid-friendly hikes around the Sainte-Victoire, feel free to read this post. It depends on your kids condition (and mood!) how long you’re able to hike.
