    La Pizza, Aix

OK, what DOES your kid want to eat? When I ask my kids for dinner inspiration it goes in this order… pancakes, fries or pizza. I never hear them ask for veggies, but I assume that more kids have this kind of appetite ;-). There is plenty of pizza choice in Aix, but I can really recommend our favorite. La Pizza is located in the centre of Aix and has a lot of tables outside. Besides that, La Pizza makes cute heart shaped pizzas for kids. La Pizza is in our hearts because it was the first restaurant we ate when we decided to move to Aix. In a charming…

    Le Village des Automates

Close to Aix-en-Provence, on a road with several ‘châteaux de vin’, you find this outdoor amusement park for kids with lots and lots of fun to play. While driving on the road that leads you to Le Village des Automates in Saint-Cannat, you just can’t miss the huge blue whale that almost screams: ‘come here’. Well, my kids got that message. Factor cute The park is located in a forest and is very good to manage with young kids. Although some of the theme attractions are kind of old-fashioned, the cuteness factor wins. Kids don’t even see that. They are far too happy with all the creative slides, a bicycle…

    Terre Ugo Maison de Lavande

When you are in the Provence during summertime, you cannot mis the wonderful lavender fields. Beautiful purple colored landscapes and subtile scents. You could opt for the big ones around Valensole, but please don’t skip my favorite lavender paradise. Situated in Puyricard, Terre Ugo is a family run field within a perfect proportion to visit it with your kid. Terre Ugo is my cherished kid-friendly lavender field near Aix-en-Provence. You can visit it this season from June 1st until August 31st. Lovely vibes This lavender field, only a few minutes away from Aix is just sweet and beautiful, the family has a great way of presenting. Everything is done with…

    Musée du Calisson

If you feel like just a short escape from home, you could take your kid to a mini museum just outside of Aix. It is the Musée du Calisson, a museum about calissons from Aix-en-Provence. The museum is very very small, but also very cute. This kid-friendly place is situated in the factory of Le Roy René, the local producer of the delicious cookies. The cookies (I am not sure if I am allowed to name them cookies) are made of almonds, candied melon and icing. When you live in, or visit Aix, tasting a calisson is a must-do. How nice to taste it where it is made. As our…

    Écomusée de la forêt

Yes, the museums are open again! Just outside of Aix you find a kid-friendly forest museum. It is the Écomusée de la forêt in Gardanne and it even has an outdoor playground! Talking about a cool place… The Écomusée is a small but sweet museum about the flora and fauna in the region of Aix-en-Provence. The exhibitions are really adapted to children, there are some cute interactive games and areas. Oh and, (my kids love their screen time anywhere) there is a short film. Besides learning about the plants and animals, my kids especially got appealed by the section about forest fires. The sound of sirens made my son very…

    Picnic Château Gassier

Sometimes you just have to extend the idea of kid-friendly activities, also to make yourself very happy. And a happy you is always a good idea for the whole family! So what would you think of a picnic with kids on a vineyard? The vineyard I would like to suggest you is Château Gassier in Puyloubier, a village near Aix-en-Provence. The château is situated in a beautiful surrounding, right on the foot of the Sainte-Victoire mountain. Picture acres of vines and the impressive mountain range and you must be as enthusiastic as me. On top of that the vineyard organises several cute events, like an outdoor cinema or an astronomic…

    Aqueduc de Roquefavour

On our way to school we always spot a glance of the impressive Aqueduc de Roquefavour. It is situated in Ventabren, a village near Aix-en-Provence. This aqueduct was build in 1847 as part of the Canal de Marseille to bring water from La Durance to Marseille. The engineers were inspired by the antique and famous Pont du Gard, also a place I tend to write you about. Aqueduc de Roquefavour is still used to supply Marseille with water. My kids and I really wanted to have a closer look, so we found a kid-friendly hike towards Aqueduc de Roquefavour. Once you search online, you could find several trails that include…

    Lac de Peyrolles

As a proud resident of the Provence, I really love the sun and the massive amount of sunny days. However, the summers in the Provence can be very hot. My kids love the sun as well, but sometimes we can’t take the heat anymore. Yes, we are spoiled brats, I know. I have the perfect cooling get-away for you, including playgrounds and a swimming lake. And near Aix-en-Provence. Lac de Peyrolles is a great kid-friendly place to spend your entire day. Only from July to August you pay a fee to park your car, besides these months this even is a free escape! And what do you get? An azur…

    Sports park Venelles

One of the pretty communities of Aix-en-Provence is Venelles. Just outside of the village there is a huge park with all kinds of sports facilities, Parc de Sports Maurice Daugé. The park is located in a forest environment, on top of a hill. I could really recommend to visit this kid-friendly sports park. One of the interesting places here is the swimming pool, Le centre aquatique Sainte-Victoire. It is a large and modern swimming pool, which is already great to go to with kids. But the best thing is outside: a water splashing playground. Can’t wait until summer! Well, and for it to open without any restrictions. To keep things…

    Crêpes à gogo, Aix

One of the famous French specialties are ‘crêpes’. Where I come from we eat pancakes, the more thick version and often with stuff in the batter. In my opinion crêpes are a more sophisticated version, though of course no way healthier :-D. Anyway, I think my kids and I could eat crêpes on every moment of the day: as breakfast, lunch, goûter… There is almost no more favorite meal for kids I believe. In the centre of Aix-en-Provence you can find a great spot for crêpes with kids that I would like to suggest. It is called Crêpes à gogo and is located in an, yes, underground corridor. Sounds a…
